Does everyone wear a mask?

While it might not be accurate to say that everyone wears a mask all the time, most people wear a mask at some points in their lives. Masks protect us from emotional pain, hide our vulnerabilities and help us conform to societal expectations. Who ends up putting on which mask at what point depends on factors like personality, life experiences and the social environment.

At what point do we put on our masks?

As children, we are at our most authentic. But as we grow into our teens, we realise that who we are is often not what society expects us to be. Afraid of being rejected or exposed, we put on a façade that we believe will be accepted by society. While masks do act as coping mechanisms, they conceal our true feelings, prevent genuine connections and lead to severe issues later on in adulthood.

Are masks more damaging to men?

Masks damage everyone. But the tendency of men to put on masks is higher because the men face greater pressure to be strong, successful and to provide for their families.
